How do I edit my workout?
The Workout Actions menu in Volt lets athletes quickly edit their workouts on the go — including adding or deleting sets, replacing or adding movements, writing notes, and adjusting movement groups.
Need to make a change to your workout on the go? You can add sets, delete movements, and more using the Workout Actions menu — all without leaving your flow.
Workout Actions
Perform quick edits to your Volt workout with the Workout Actions feature. Simply tap the “Actions” button to bring up a menu of options:

- Replace Movement
- Add Set
- Add Movement
- Write Note
- Split / Merge Movement Group
- Delete Set
Read on for a detailed breakdown of each action.
Replace Movement
This feature lets you swap out your current exercise for another. Choose from 6 recommended options, which target the same movement pattern as your original exercise, or any option from our library of 1,500+ exercises.
Use “Replace” when you want to mix it up, without diminishing the effectiveness of your overall training session.
Add Set
This action duplicates your current set. It’s a quick and easy way to add more volume to your workout.
Add Movement
This action lets you insert a new exercise into your workout. Unlike Add Set, which only adds one set of a given exercise (e.g., 1 set x 10 reps), Add Movement will add multiple sets (e.g., 4 sets x 8-10 reps) of your chosen exercise — matching the intended volume and intensity of your workout.
Volt will ask you to first choose where you’d like your new movement to go:
- Before / After This Group → This will place your new exercise either before or after your current movement group (all sets of your current movement, and any paired movements in your group).
- Start / End of Activity → This will place your new exercise at either the beginning or end of your workout. Perfect for quickly adding a warm-up exercise at the start, or some core work at the end.
After you choose where your movement will live, simply select your exercise and hit Confirm.
Write Note
This feature lets you leave yourself a quick personal note on a movement. Great for recording which color band you used on a Band Lat Pulldown, or noting which seat setting you used for your Leg Press, or jotting down the height of the box you used for a Box Jump. Movement Notes make it easy for you to reference important info you’ll need next time you see this movement.
Tap “Write Note” and Volt will pop the Movement Info page for that exercise, filtered to the Notes tab. Write up to 350 characters each note.
Split / Merge Movement Group
This action lets you break apart supersets into individual movements, or combine movement groups into larger supersets. It helps you reorganize your workout into an order that works best for you.
- Split Movement Group → If your current movement is grouped with another exercise (e.g., AB AB AB), you will see an option to Split Movement Group. This action will break apart the grouped movements so you will no longer alternate sets of each exercise (e.g., AAA BBB).
- Merge Movement Group → If your current movement isn’t grouped with another, you will see an option to Merge Movement Group. Tap “Merge,” then select which group you’d like to combine your current movement with. It functions as the inverse to Split Movement Group.
Delete Set
This action lets you delete one or multiple sets of an exercise from your workout. Tap “Delete,” then make your selection:
- Just This Set → Deletes only the current set of a movement. Great for times when you don’t intend to finish your last set.
- All Sets (#) → Deletes all sets of your current movement, excluding any you have already completed. Use this action when you don’t intend to perform any sets of a movement.
These quick edit actions give you the flexibility to configure your Volt workout exactly how you want it. Using the Workout Actions menu, you can:
- Replace a movement with another option you prefer.
- Add more sets of a movement you love, to increase your volume (up to 10 sets).
- Delete sets of a movement that you don’t intend to do, so you can achieve 100% workout completion.
- Add new movements to your workout, based on your training preferences.
- Write notes on movements to record important info for next time, like which color band you used.
- Split movement groups, so you don’t have to alternate sets of movements that use different pieces of equipment (great for large gym settings).
- Merge movement groups to create supersets.
Using Workout Actions in the Coach Platform
Coaches and trainers using the Volt Coach Platform can also access Workout Actions while in Tablet Training Mode and View As Mode. Simply tap the ellipsis […] button to bring up the Workout Actions menu. This makes it easy to edit workouts on the fly if you are training athletes in person.
If your athletes or clients use the Training App to log workouts, you can also control whether they can access these workout edit actions. To remove this permission, go to your Program > Edit Details > uncheck the Workout Edits checkbox. This will remove working editing actions from the menu in your athletes’ Training App. To remove permission to perform movement replacements, uncheck the Movement Replacements checkbox on the same page.
Note: Athletes will still be able to write notes on movements, even if the Workout Edits checkbox is unchecked.
