Allowing Athletes to Create Their Own Programs

With Multiple Programs, athletes can now run and manage more than one program at a time. As a coach or admin, you decide whether the athletes in your organization can build their own programs — and you can publish program templates for them to choose from. 🗂️

Controlling whether athletes can create programs

A new organization setting, Allow athletes to create programs, controls this behavior for everyone in your org. This feature is defaulted to OFF, but can be enabled.

  • Turned ON: Athletes can create their own programs from Volt's programming domains, in addition to anything you've assigned.
  • Turned OFF: Athletes train only with the programs you assign or publish for them.

Publishing a program template for athletes

When you publish a program template, your athletes can start from it directly in the app, after tapping “New Program” from their program switcher. This is a great way to offer structured choices — for example, a few sport- or goal-specific options — while keeping athletes on programming you trust.

To publish a program template in the Coach Platform, go to Content Library > Program Templates > Publish to Athletes.

What athletes can and can't do

Athletes manage their own programs from the Manage Programs page (rename, adjust dates, restart, archive). To protect your programming:

  • Athletes cannot archive or delete programs that you created and manage for them.
  • Athletes can manage any program they created themselves (when allowed).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this affect programs I've already assigned?

No. Existing assigned programs continue to work as before. This setting only governs whether athletes can additionally create their own.

Where do I find the setting?

It lives in your organization settings in the Coach Platform. Tap your name in the bottom left corner > Organization Settings > Allow athletes to create programs.

Can different athletes have different permissions?

The setting applies at the organization level.

Why it matters

Every program model is different. These controls let you strike the right balance — giving self-directed athletes the freedom to build their own training, while keeping coach-led programs locked down and consistent.
